National Park De Weerribben-Wieden is a true hotspot for nature enthusiasts, as one of the nature lovers staying at our park explains. But the area has a lot more to offer people who want to explore the local flora and fauna.
Today, we rented bicycles to discover the area by land. We ordered lunch boxes at reception, which we take with us in the handy bike baskets. Our plan is to make a tour of the Beulakerwijde and Belterwijde. We enjoy the views and maritime traffic on the large lakes, alternated with the quiet and beautiful nature of the expansive reed lands, meadowlands and dense swamp forests in National Park Weerribben-Wieden.
Halfway our trip, we take a break at visitor centre De Wieden at Sint Jansklooster, where we learn more about the history and interesting facts of this area. We love cycling in the Netherlands; it is so relaxing. The cycling network map we got at reception makes it easy to find your way. After a day of cycling, we treated ourselves to a snack board and a drink on the Beachclub’s huge sun terrace.
De Weerribben-Wieden is fascinating and colourful in all seasons: yellow kingcups in Spring, lavish greens in Summer, bronze reed lands in Autumn and hushed icy blues in Winter.
